Really, seriously…it could happen couldn’t it?

A place where the scrapbook industry can be discussed without getting into horrendous name calling and slander?
I loved the idea of scrap critic – but it’s site owner finds it OK for people to annoymously attack individuals with such hateful speech.
I am all about free speech – but not slander. We’re not going to go there on this blog. This is all about the industry. Where you can openly and honestly share what you like and don’t like about the scrapbook industry.
What manufacturers are doing, what you like that’s on the web and what you don’t…etc…
The rules – no rules except that I will delete comments that are out of line to or about individuals and potentially slanderous remarks against companies.
So post away – give me some topic ideas – and lets get started.

Okay…some topics.
1. Is the journaling in scrap magazines intended to be read, or is it private?
2. I’d love to see another review of scrapbooking advertisements. There have been some great ones lately.
3. Magazine reviews
4. Thoughts on contests
5. Thoughts on dt calls
6. Is there enough variety? What do the readers really want?
7. Should there be a magazine targeted strictly to the designers?
8. Pros and cons of multiple trade shows
9. Entitlement.
10. Does it hurt or help a vendor at a trade show to have popular names working the booth?
11. The ever present controversy of being on multiple design teams
okay…my kids are begging for their bedtime snacks, all from me for now. I’m anxious to see this blog take off and actually become a valuable tool. Thanks again!

That is a pretty good list you have there Torm, I can see where those would be very valuable discussions for those that are seeking or have been published and I look forward to reading and commenting on them. My question for the blogger is this: Is this forum intended to be for the “pub” crowd (for lack of a better term) or can those that have no desire to play the pub game, but are interested in seeing the magazines and the craft of scrapbooking improve & thrive join in? (as long as they respect the rules of the board of course).

Great ideas for discussion, Torm! I’m excited to actually hear some thoughts from others and compare them to some of the things that have been rattling around in my head!

Just my opinion…I don’t know what the blog host’s thoughts are…but I think this forum should be for everybody. On Scrapcritic, for example, there was some very good meat hidden between the individual attacks. I don’t think it matters two bits if you’ve been published or not, or what your goal is in this industry…everybody’s words have value, everyones insight can make a difference.
I also think it’s important for some people to be anonymous. I can think of many things that I myself would prefer to say anon. rather than under my own name. I notice that the email is required here, and perhaps that makes some people cautious about posting, but my suggestion would be to pick an anon name..and pick a gmail account, or something….and post. I firmly believe that we can all honestly share and learn from each other in this way.

okay, how bout praise threads? Can we talk about them?? I mean, i don’t see the point–everyone ends up praising the layouts, some of which are good, some of which are awful!

Okay then cool! Blogger, start a topic thread!
On a side note, re the priase threads I don’t understand them either. But then again I don’t beleive in the whole priase the layout posted before and after you theory either. It just seems silly and everytime I get that kind of praise I have have to think that it is insincere and given only because I was the pea that posted a layout before or after them. And I refuse to leave praise on the layout before or after me because I am afraid that that poster will think the same thing KWIM?

Do you think all the new releases look the same? I saw the new scrapworks yesterday and felt it looked like something already out there.
Is being a GG the highest accomplishment in the industry or just another clique?
HOw do we get back to the real reason we scrapbook and not worry about being published? This isn’t me but I think it is a lot of people

I hope this forum can be for anyone. I hope eventually vendor and product designers will read this forum and hear us as the die hard scrappers we are.
I also want this to be a place to vent but there just needs to be some civility – those other blogs were getting stupid.
Thanks Torm for the topics – love your ideas.

HI!
I’m hapy to see this blog and hope it will be very popular but not for it’s controversy!
I am owner of a new scrapbooking company. I’m sure that reading your opinion about the industry may be helpful for us.

This sounds like it will be a terrific forum. I love to hear opinions, even when they are not my own. BUT I cannot handle nastiness. Thanks for starting this blog. As for topics:
1. Event scrapping vs moments scrapping
2. Copyright
3. Trends
4. Scrapbook classes, good vs bad.
That’s all I have for now.
